Laser Assisted Cataract Procedures

Laser Vision SA was the first cataract practice in Adelaide to introduce Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS).

Dr Fraenkel has been following LACS and the available technologies for LACS since it was first performed in 2008. Though three other laser systems have been available in Australia and New Zealand prior to now, his research and visits to day surgeries around the world have led Dr Fraenkel to the conclusion the LensAR system is the best new technology to provide his patients with the best possible cataract procedure comfort, safety, and visual outcomes.

Dr Fraenkel has now performed over 2,000 Laser Assisted Cataract Procedures using the LensAR laser and regularly has interstate cataract surgeons visiting his cataract theatre to learn how to better perform LACS.

The LensAR system provides a unique combination of:

  • Seamless 3-D imaging providing Augmented Reality (AR). AR is a computer enhanced view of the unique anatomy of your own individual eye, used to plan the precise laser procedure which assists your cataract procedure
  • Scheimpflug imaging, which is specially suited to see through even the densest of cataract, providing confidence that all parameters of your unique cataract are taken into account when planning the safety of your personal procedure.
  • Patient comfort. You do not need to undertake multiple transfers and handovers in multiple rooms as LensAR can be used in the same room in which the cataract procedure is completed.
  • Patient relaxation. You can relax, knowing the laser does not directly contact your eye, but instead is applied through a gentle fluid filled interface.
  • Safety. Thousands of procedures have already been performed internationally with LensAR and presented in the scientific literature and at ophthalmic conferences. These studies have shown that LACS can reduce postoperative eye swelling and inflammation, and lead to improved vision without glasses after your cataract procedure.

Laser Assisted Cataract Procedures

  • Safety:

the LensAR Laser System’s Augmented Reality provides us with a 3-D view of your eye, allowing more precise information and treatment choices during your cataract removal procedure.

  • Precision:

the LensAR Laser System’s advanced technology offers the most precise and accurate treatment available.

  • Results:

the LensAR Laser System allows us to precisely place laser pulses that effectively soften your cataract for removal and ensure the appropriate condition for the best lens placement, helping to restore your vision to its full potential.

  • How does LensAR improve my advanced cataract procedure?

With the LensAR Laser System, we can remove your cataract in a more advanced way, using a laser.

Using the LensAR Laser System ensures that your advanced, customized cataract procedure can be performed with laser precision.

This is because of Augmented Reality, a unique imaging system that provides us with an advanced, 3-D view of your eye to help plan and treat your cataract.

With this advanced technology, we can offer you a better, more precise cataract removal procedure that is customized to your eye’s own unique anatomy.

  • Will LensAR make a difference for me?

We offer the LensAR Laser System because it is safe, effective, and uses the same proven laser technology that’s been used in LASIK vision correction procedures for over a decade.

    Other benefits include:

    • A unique, high-resolution, 3-D image of your eye that allows us to tailor your treatment, which can improve visual outcomes.
    • Most advanced technology available that may reduce the time it takes to remove your cataracts.
    • Designed with comfort in mind so you can relax, knowing you are having the latest technology available to treat one of your most valuable senses – your sight.
  • Why should I elect to have an advanced cataract procedure?

Advanced cataract surgery allows us to tailor your procedure with the goal of reducing your dependency on glasses or contact lenses. During your procedure, we use the most advanced technology available, including premium intraocular lenses, and the LensAR Laser System with Augmented Reality, an advanced 3-D imaging technology.

LensAR's superior Augmented Reality 3-D imaging takes a more intelligent approach to cataract surgery. With Augmented Reality, we can see everything inside your eye in greater detail. This allows the surgeon to plan the surgery better, to precisely soften the cataract in preparation for removal, and to ensure the appropriate condition for the most accurate placement of your intraocular lens.

It is LensAR’s precision, imaging, and laser incisions that allow us to ensure that the cataract is safely removed and that the new intraocular lens is perfectly placed, resulting in better visual outcomes.
