Can my vision be improved with Laser Vision Correction? YES!

More than ever, the answer is probably “YES”! Laser Eye Surgery can treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, and now, the need for reading glasses (presbyopia).

Blurred vision can be due to many causes.

In most people it is simply because they need glasses or contacts, with which they see clearly. If this is you, it is likely you will benefit from laser vision correction.

Vision problems occur because of poor focus of light on the back of the eye (the retina) by the cornea (the front surface of the eye) and the “crystalline” lens inside the eye. This is called refractive error, which includes near or short sightedness and astigmatism. Glasses and contact lenses work by changing focus of light before it enters the cornea. Laser Eye Surgery can treat short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, and now, the need for reading glasses (presbyopia).

Short-sighted (MYOPIA)

Short-sighted means you have clear vision at short distances from your eye but not long, so you may be able to read or use computer clearly but need optical aids (glasses or contact lenses) for distance vision.

Long-sighted (HYPEROPIA)

Long-sighted when you are young means seeing clearly at long distances but not close up. Then as you get older you may start needing optical aids for clear distance vision as well.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is a condition that affects the shape of your eye.

You may have heard that Laser Eye Surgery is no good for astigmatism. However, this is a common misconception.

Reading glasses (PRESBYOPIA)

Everyone’s vision deteriorates as they get older.

Presbyopia is where in the presence good distance vision (with or without optical aids) you start to need glasses for close work.

Vision Correction for very high prescriptions

Laser Eye Surgery is also an increasingly viable option for people with prescriptions that have struggled to find a suitable form of vision correction.

With newer treatments like SMILE, even very high prescriptions can be safely treated.
